Ben Horowitz, co-founder of VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, recently wrote a great piece on what I believe is the single most important prerequisite of leadership. And that is to be yourself. In other words, it’s authenticity.
Here are some quotes from the piece:
“If you try to be someone else, not only will you not be able to lead, but you’ll be ashamed to have people emulate you.”
“If you aren’t yourself, you won’t even follow you.”
“If you follow the first rule of leadership, not everybody will like you. I know this, because not everybody likes me.”
