Navdy review

Navdy, a heads-up display for your car where we’re investors, was recently reviewed on TechCrunch by Darrell Etherington who has been using Navdy for several months.

The review does a great job of outlining Navdy’s key benefits over the traditional navigation options that come with your car. These include:

  1. Distraction-free driving by projecting its imagery through the driver’s windshield onto the road in front
  2. Continuous improvements through over-the-air updates
  3. Accommodation of incoming calls and notifications
  4. Google Maps integration for traffic data and routing directions
  5. Sleek design
  6. Gesture input recognition
  7. The first use cases of its voice input recognition

Just like you

Our portfolio company Modanisa is the world’s leading e-commerce site dedicated to female Muslim fashion.

The company recently shared a short video dedicated to the women that it serves. What’s unique about the video is that it features the participation of non-Muslim women who wanted to show their support for the active lifestyles of Muslim women.

This is why the video is called Just Like You.

Tapu’s new round

Tapu, an online real estate auction marketplace where we’re investors, announced its new $1.2M funding round earlier this week.

The funding round which was led by existing investor Earlybird also included participation from existing investors Can Yucaoglu and Banu Kucukel.

Tapu has grown the number of online property sales that are completed on its marketplace to over 50 per month. Given the high price and lack of commoditization of these properties, that’s an impressive number.

Together with the new round, Tapu is well positioned to further grow this number by selling a greater number of properties on behalf of its existing partner banks while also attracting the properties of new business partners to its marketplace.

We value the continued support which our co-investors are showing the company and congratulate the Tapu team for their crisp execution and steady growth.

Buldumbuldum’s new round

Buldumbuldum, a mass customized products marketplace serving both consumers and businesses where we’re investors, announced its latest funding round last week.

All of the existing investors of the company including Nevzat Aydin, Melih Odemis, Can Yucaoglu, Birol Yucel, and us participated in the round.

The round’s proceeds will go towards Buldumbuldum’s capex investments in new printing machines and towards attracting and serving its first international customers. We look forward to following the company’s progress on both fronts.

Carbon’s new round

Carbon is a digital healthcare system where we’re seed investors.

The company recently announced its new funding round which brings the total funding raised by the company across two rounds to $6.5M. We participated in both rounds.

We welcome this round’s new investors including its lead BuildersVC to the company, and look forward to continuing to watch Carbon’s CEO Eren Bali and his team execute on their ambitious vision.

Sinemia’s Facebook Messenger bot

Sinemia, a monthly movie membership club and content site where we’re investors, recently launched its Facebook Messenger bot.

If you go to the Facebook Messenger app and search for Sinemia, you can chat with Sinemia’s bot to discover movie theaters close to you, browse movie screening times, and read articles about the movies.

Equally important, if you can’t find what you’re looking for by interacting with Sinemia’s bot, you can also request to be handed off to a human agent. This is a very important feature for bots which are in their early development stages to ensure that they’re able to respond to the full needs of the humans that they’re interacting with.

As a Sinemia member and regular user, I find the Sinemia app to be a more convenient way to reach the same information as that available through Sinemia’s Messenger bot. However, for people who don’t use the Sinemia app or who do but are looking for a different channel to reach the same information, Sinemia’s Messenger bot provides a great alternative.

InOne by Insider

Insider, a predictive segmentation and real-time marketing tool for companies where we’re investors, yesterday launched its new marketing technology platform InOne.

In the words of Insider’s CEO Hande Cilingir, “InOne brings together all the technologies marketers need to deliver personalized experiences under a single, highly usable platform.”

And in the words of Insider’s CTO Sinan Toktay, “InOne powers personalized experiences with new and enhanced predictive modeling and segmentation technologies. Segments are only as good as the data behind them. Allowing marketers to act on ready-to-use segments based on the future behaviors of their visitors, we have transformed the way they deliver personalized experiences.”

In addition to bringing Insider’s predictive modeling and segmentation technologies under a single platform, InOne also introduces the Ad Audiences module to bridge the gap between marketing tech and ad tech. Specifically, Ad Audiences lets marketers optimize their advertising spend by pushing their highest value predictive segments into third party ad platforms like Facebook and Google AdWords.
