Founder referrals

I’ll be visiting San Francisco two weeks from now to spend time with our startups there. Although the primary goal of the trip is to work with our existing companies, a secondary goal is to meet promising new companies.

And one of the best ways for an investor to do so is to ask your founders to refer you to the founders of other promising companies that they know. Great founders tend to hang out with each other so, if you’ve invested in the right founders, they’re likely to be a great source of new founders.

I started requesting these referrals yesterday and have already lined up three meetings with new founders as a result. This number will likely grow as we get nearer to the trip date.

I’m already looking forward to the meetings.
